Many of those parents who grew up in dual-income households never learned even the basics of cooking, and certainly can't teach their kids how to cook. Home economics classes used to give kids a jump start on home cooking, but most schools dropped home economics programs years ago.
So where do people who want to learn how to cook learn how to cook? The hundreds of cooking shows on TV are fun to watch, but far too advanced for most beginning cooks to emulate. Even the cookbooks targeting beginning cooks can be intimidating and static pictures and text can't adequately demonstrate and teach a hands-on skill like cooking.
